Plattdütsches Theoter
(Low German Theatre)

(Inquiries: Rt 2, Box 259, Cole Camp, MO 65325)

The pictures that are on these pages are of the twelveth unique production of the Plattdütsches Theoter.  The purpose is to promote the Low German language and the local German heritage.

Many of the local residents' ancestors emigrated to America in the mid 1800's from Northern Germany, in an area called Niedersachsen, bringing with them their Low German language and culture.

As we give our best efforts in our preparatory work, we also in our own way honor our ancestors, who came to this country with their language, their stories, and the desire for a better life.  As we share their history, we honor our heritage and look forward to giving the younger generations a glimpse of their German roots.

Henry Lange, Sr. This year's production is dedicated to Henry Lange, Sr. 1911-2001.  Henry was an important member of the Low German theater.  Not only did he play many roles in the theater, he "wooed" the audience with his music.  He entertained playing both the button accordion and the mouth harp.  Arriving in America in 1930, he brought with him his love of the German music and songs.  He treasured his heritage and shared his love of his mother country with us.  He left a large space in our club, our theater and our hearts.  We lovingly dedicate the 2001 Low German Theater to his memory.
Now enjoy the pictures..  They were taken during the performance on Sunday, October 14, 2001..  If you print them, or use them in any way, please email me the details.  I enjoy making these pictures available, but do ask that if you also enjoy them, let me know along with your ties to Cole Camp or how you found out about the pictures..

There is additional German-American information along with a short sound clip from some of the performers at http://www.dwelle.de/english/germanamericans/platt.html - enjoy!!
